Ghannouchi's statement "We are everwhere".

The great "white" hope PDP collapsed in the final weeks of the campaign a victim of Chebbi's autocratic bent, despite its K Street spin meisters.

There were demos in Tunis protesting Ennahda's victory today by those who want democracy when their party wins but not when the "other" party wins. Seems the US's attempts to promote US style democracy in Tunisia are bearing fruit at least among the disaffected.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22261571.post-85218205501244941682011-10-24T22:04:15.544-04:002011-10-24T22:04:15.544-04:00Phil:

To say it is not an "Islamist Party in any Way" strikes me as going too far.Michael Collins Dunnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07398326467953722017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22261571.post-21973660313986064792011-10-24T19:54:35.645-04:002011-10-24T19:54:35.645-04:00AlNahda is not an Islamist party in any way. A more honest tag would be that it is a Islamo-liberal party since there is a very badly structured western liberalism in an Islamic context in the ghannouchi's ideology. Or at least a (socially)conservative political party.

Also considering what the secular parties have said about Ghannouchi's party the question should be about if they can play in the system. The focus on Alnahda's 'democratic credentals' shows a level of hypocracy on the "democracy promotion" on behalf of western pundits and their middle eastern and north african acolytes.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10808368409226189063noreply@blogger.com
