In the latest spillover of the war in Syria, a Syrian SCUD has reportedly landed in northern Iraq near the border. The SCUD was allegedly intended for the Syrian city.of Dair al-Zor. There were apparently no casualties.
Great timing. An Iraqi delegation led by National Security Adviser Faleh Al-Fayyah is currently in Washington for consultations under the Strategic Framework Agreement. Asked about Syria, Al-Fayyah said that U.S. and Iraqi governments are cooperating, including joint efforts to prevent dispersion of chemical weapons both into Iraq and into the hands of terrorists.
I doubt that it was intended for the city of Deir al-Zor. If so, it would be something like 150 km wide of the mark. More likely the target was near the Yaaroubiya-Rabia border crossing, where there's ongoing fighting right now. That's pretty close to the place it landed.
