I previously noted that this blog had been nominated for the Weblog Awards in the category of best Middle East or Africa blog. At last count the nomination had something like 17 seconds, making it one of the better received blogs nominated. But December passed with no finalists being announced, and now they've announced the awards won't be held. They can't afford the bandwidth and servers, having processed a million votes in 2008.
I have no idea if I'd have been a finalist, but am flattered to have received a number of votes in my first year of blogging. Thank you, readers, even if the awards are off.
