Johnson is, sadly, a fair representation of the American public. Most people only learn about world geography when we go to war in a foreign country. St. John Kerry's tireless diplomacy regarding Aleppo is not enough. For Americans to take the trouble to learn about Aleppo, we have to he involved there in a military way, and I don't think that air campaigns by themselves would do the trick.

I believe it was Ambroae Bierce who said war was God's way of teachin Americans geography.

Given that the USA has contributed significantly to the destruction in Syria, it would be perhaps better for the people of Syria if US policy makers were as clueless about the location of Syria as President Johnson.
