Bashar al-Asad is marking ten years as President of Syria. His survival no doubt comes as a surprise for some (including some family members), but the anniversary is naturally provoking a number of assessments and summing ups. Gett5ing the most attention is probably Human Rights Watch's A Wasted Decade on the human rights record. The title seems to sum it up.
