As Others See it Today

I've already posted some of my own reflections on today's anniversary, but others have many interesting perspectives to offer as well. This is just a selection of some of the English-language commentary, and only includes those not behind paywalls; even so, I may have more links and more comments of my own later.
  • Sarah Carr, "Revolutions."  (Posted a few days ago, but her reflections on the anniversary.)

First item on the list is of greatest merit and interest. Issandr El Amrani, The Arabist, "The Arab Spring, US Foreign Policy, the Status-Quo Lobby and the Dream Palace of the Zionists." He really gets many of the basic themes that require a rethinking of US policy to adapt to realities of change in Egypt. One serious quibble: Egypt cannot hope to deal effectively with its looming economic catastrophe without a strong role for the IMF and the US. Withdrawal by Washington from the Arab world would be one more disaster for Egypt.
