Algerian Political Art and Imagery
The Moor Next Door has a rather interesting photo essay on "The Face of the People: As the [Algerian] Regime Describes Itself," illustrating propaganda posters and official photographs from the independence era to Bouteflika. It would be interesting to see something similar on eastern Arab countries. It's interesting that the early stuff is clearly influenced by Soviet/Chinese/Cuban socialist propaganda styles, yet one of the paintings is of (rebel fighters?) at prayer.
