Holbrooke-Karzai Confrontation?
The BBC is reporting that Richard Holbrooke and Hamid Karzai had an "explosive" meeting after the Afghan elections in which Holbrooke lectured Karzai about irregularities in the elections. It's interesting to note that while immediately after the elections Karzai was claiming a huge lead, the actual numbers released so far show a much closer race. Clearly the US has a lot invested in the world seeing the elections as fair; so the Holbrooke-Karzai story has a certain credibility, though so far as I know no US source has reported the supposed confrontation.
