Prince Salman bin Sultan, son of the late Saudi Crown Prince and longtime Defense Minister Prince Sultan bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, has been named Deputy Minister of Defense by King ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz. The move returns a son of Prince Sultan to the Deputy Defense Ministry post a few months after the removal of his brother Prince Khalid bin Sultan; a less senior royal had held the job in the interim. Another son of Prince Sultan, Bandar bin Sultan, longtime Ambassador to the US, is currently intelligence chief after a period of eclipse.
The current Crown Prince, Salman bin ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, is the Minister of Defense.
