Mubarak to Speak Tonight?

There are multiple reports that Mubarak will speak tonight but that he will only say he is leaving at the end of his term after September elections, meantime implementing reforms. Eight days ago that might have been sufficient. Now, I doubt it.

Various reports indicating (US Ambassador) Scobey talked to ElBaradei and she or (special envoy) Wisner talked to Mubarak. Would love to hear the message.

One good indication of the message being delivered diplomatically by Wisner and Scobey is Senator John Kerry's op ed in the NYT. In language that flattered Mubarak as a nationalist who had Egypt's interests at heart, Kerry said he could serve those interests by stepping aside gracefully to allow elections and a new political structure that did not include his son Gamal. As SFRC Chairman, Kerry has independent weight. More importantly, he was Barak Obama's mentor on foreign policy, going back to the time that Obama was a junior member of the SFRC. Kerry has previously flown trial balloons for Obama on Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria. Get the picture?
